As you can see this advert is filled
with iconic women even dead celebrities, which have been digitized in to the
Dior commercial. The scene takes place in Versaille's House of Mirrors and we
will learn that Charlize Theron is about to undertake a similar process to the
predecessors.
The Mirrors could represent how people
see themselves, and as Charlize strolls through the commercial, the women in question
could represent alters and how Charlize could sees herself.
Charlize Theron, as the current face
of Dior, is greeted by Grace Kelly. Grace Kelly could represent innocence and
the earliest stage of monarch creation. Even to the point of saying that even
royalty wear this perfume.
Charlize then rushes past others who
are being dressed for the “show” .The brunette at 0:36 could represent a girl
who has taken an Audrey Hepburn like alter personality.
Marilyn is the final step before
Charlize can hit the "stage", Marilyn fawns over the bottle of
J'adore Dior, and they have made the Dior bottle, as if it was the ultimate
reward. As if Marilyn's outfit would be complete with J'adore Dior.
These legends could be seen as alters
of Charlize's fragmented and broken mind. All have become one individual and
she takes their "spirit" with her on the stage.
There's the use of gold - especially
of statues and also in the dress with the ornate jeweled like neckwear and
chains on the front. Gold could represent wealth and luxury and those of the
rich and famous. Even to the extent of it representing royalty with the use of
Grace Kelly. The dress could also symbolize the bottle itself; the dress is
also a theme run throughout Dior adverts.
Even the use of music could show that
they are seen to be controlling minds though the scent of perfume.
Somehow I feel they are trying to tell
you that the people who wear it are more important than the perfume itself,
however these people have nothing to do with the perfume. Dior is trying to
sell you that glamorous lifestyle full of luxury and gold. The name of the
perfume suggests that you will “adore/ love” this perfume anyway. Personally
this advert really doesn’t quite sell me the perfume it sort of makes me cringe.
