Blythe house was originally used as
the head quarters of the Post office savings bank. But now it holds the
archives for 3-museum The British Museum, The Science Museum and The Victoria
and Albert Museum.
I was there to look at the V&A
achieves, these archives include, the Beatrix Potter Collection; the V&A
Theatre and Performance Archives and the V&A’s own institutional archives.
We were shown a number of peoples work
including Lucienne Day’s portfolio which is kept in it original order, Helen
Megaw’ Crystal Design 1951, The ambassador magazines from 1937-68, they
promoted British textile trade, we also saw some of there photoshoot images,
Heals furnishings archives 1904-40 showing stock books and there prices, Gordon
Hunters Presage fashion trend books 1960-80 with 4volumes a year, Jacqueline
Groag and some fabric sample books from Calico printers association. Here are
