Pattern as Expression; My final out come.

So from this pattern as expression series of lectures I have gain several skills and knowledge. I have learnt more about laser cutting, Adobe software (illustrator) and 3D software (Rhino). All of which I enjoyed and it was a great experience having cross discipline to see how other people worked.  The skills and knowledge I have learnt will help me develop and create new ideas in my chosen specialism of textiles, I will think of things I didn’t before.
Throughout the lecture series I have looked at many different designers and process ready for me to create my own 3D piece of work and I could interpret the title Pattern as expression how I wanted. Being a textile designer pattern is something I was very interested in.

I began to think what approach I wanted to take to create my 3D piece, this is where I wanted to merge my most recent textile work with this idea.

some ideas, surface designs , my love of plastic

The work I had been working on was looking at plastics and recycling and create patterns out of these. So I decide to create a new pattern for my 3D piece. I collected many plastic bags and began cutting random shapes which I then sandwiched between PVC sheets by using a heat press, the heat also distorts the textures creating a pattern you didn’t even expect which is something I enjoy in my work the irregularity of it.

Once I had created my pattern I began to think how I could show it off, this is where I thought I could use it in an interior so I created a lampshade, so that the pattern would create an interesting shadow as well.

Overall I believe the outcome came out well, there was a few issues with weight and balance but I believe the effect and outcome are very successful and I really enjoyed creating this pattern. I feel it really reflects me as a designer the colours work well and the textures of the melted plastic adds more to the pattern that I didn’t expect.
